If you have a child that goes to college you may be worried about your car insurance. Freshman students usually are not allow to have cars on campus, but the rest of the students usually bring a car to the school.

You need to have the proper insurance coverage for your car, one option is to not allow your child to take the car to school, but it may not be the solution for you and your child.

If you let your child to take the car to college you should notify your insurance company and tell them if the car will be housed in another location. You insurance company may change your premium and either increase it or decrease it.

Usually insurance costs are higher for people under 25 due to the risks involved. But you can get a discount if your child qualifies like if the car has safety devices, good grades, taking a driving course, etc.

If the car is new your child can get your insurance policy but he needs to live at your house. If you are going to get a new insurance at his name then you should ask for any possible discounts.
